my personal GIF project
Over the last few years, as I have improved my photoshop skills, I found myself beginning to make more illustrative and composite photographic work. Alongside these new ideas, I was curious to the artists that make gif stickers for social media and whether or not there was an online community. This led me to GIPHY and I decided to give it a go.
Concept
The idea of my gifs usually are to serve one of two personal purposes. Firstly to accentuate any storytelling I may be doing through my photography on instagram or facebook; or secondly to promote a new project. Photoshop was used to create the assets and make the gifs, often with the basis of shapes or logos (n.b. any logos which are not my own were changed and reinterpreted to avoid ownership issues).
reception
Initially, I created my personal GIPHY account and had the app on my phone, which allowed me to use my gifs on social media. As I began to use them though, friends and followers would often send me messages on how they could use the gifs I was using. This has now led me to apply for a GIPHY artist page, hopefully allowing the gifs to be more easily accessible through the integrated gif search on social platforms (still under application at this time).
Below are a collection of some of the gifs I have made along with a few examples of how they have been used recently.
GLobal ‘stache - Movember 2020 team
As part of the fundraising campaign for my friends and I, which focused on a series of art and design products which were sold for charity, I made a team logo and some associated gifs for promotion of our fundraiser on social media. Alongside this, a gif was made featuring all of the hand drawn smiley faces submitted by the general public for our first project (in two speeds). These are below.
